A Seven Layer Performance Issue

Chad Crawford, Distinguished Database Engineer Henry Schein One

What do you do when the performance of a single query suddenly goes bad, bringing down your production system? Chad will walk us through several possible solutions for a specific example, showing how to identify when each one is the root cuase. We will delve through query plans, statistics and the optimizer on our way to discovering the true origin of the example's deterioration. Chad Crawford has been working with database engines for 17 years, the last 15 focused specifically on SQL Server. He has filled a variety of roles spanning architecture, development, administration and chief unicycle mechanic. Chad is currently the Database Architect at Henry Schein Practice Solutions in American Fork and a MS Certified SQL Server Master. When he isn’t optimizing a query, you will find him running, dreaming about airplanes, or looking for a new strategy board game.
