The Big Data Landscape and information for the SQL Server DBA

This presentation will give you an overview of the cross cutting technologies that exist outside of the normal SQL Server Environment. Many things are changing in the world of technology and we don’t always live in a world with one technology stack. Companies need to be able to use various technologies to meet the needs of ever changing requirements. We’ll discuss what other large players are out there and how SQL Can both compliment them and compete with them. Pat Wright Pat has been a DBA for 15+ years, Has focused much of his time on Large data warehouses and performance tuning query loads. He’s spent the last 5 years working on Big Data projects related to technologies outside of SQL Server while working on SQL server as well. Currently he works with Postgres, Elastic Search, Kafka and Elixir.

About Pat:
Pat Wright has been working in the DBA space for 10+ years. Focusing on Performance tuning and ETL/DW projects. He helped found the local SQL Users group(www.slcsql.com) and founded the Not For profit Organization Utah Geek Events(www.utahgeekevents.com) which was founded to help the local community put on events.
